Your club’s most underrated player ever

George Boateng by a mile. People go on about Juninho and Viduka (fair enough), but Boateng was the heartbeat of that team. Dirty work, tackles, leadership, 8/10 every week. Without him we don’t get near Eindhoven. Criminally underrated outside Boro.

Most underrated...hmm. Possibly Henrik Pedersen, though you could make an argument for Jimmy Phillips or Simon Charlton, too. Pedersen got a decent amount of credit, but he was overshadowed by some of our other names that came through the doors, and his rather...unceremonious ending at the club was a massive disappointment for fans and Pedersen. Jimmy Phillips was a fantastic workhorse of a player, earning himself the nickname "Mr Bolton" and earning 400 appearances in a Whites shirt. He was a truly incredible servant to the club, and yet people seem to forget that when it comes to Jimmy. Simon Charlton was a victim of circumstance, an incredible Yorkshireman who came good just as the foreign floodgates opened at Bolton and the big names from abroad flooded in. He was a wonderful, loyal and hardworking player for four years in a Bolton shirt, but he was overshadowed very quickly by names that drew Ooohs and Aaahhs from the Reebok faithful.

No Jay Jay?

I suppose he really want underrated.

Big David? :D
Jay Jay definitely wasn't underrated, he was a huge name in Bolton and we adored him for it :)

David Wheater was a legendary servant of the club, and you're right, he was underrated!
