*MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING*

I have dealt with suicidal thoughts and ideas all my life.

Recently, these have been cropping up again. My brain is telling me to go to a local bridge and jump.

How do I tell the difference between an intrusive thought and something I might actually do?

Thinking about something and acting upon those thoughts are two different processes; the fact you haven't jumped off a bridge means that subconsciously you know that is not that right course of action. The important thing now is to try and understand why you are having these thoughts, and that requires the help of someone who is professionally trained to help you understand why these thoughts are becoming intrusive again. It's possible that there are things going on in your life that superficially appear to be fine, but underlying thoughts may be occurring because something more meaningful, to you, is going on but is not manifesting itself in a way that you recognise. But I'm no expert and I can only tell you what I know from my own personal experiences with such thoughts.

I would definitely make a point of talking to someone about this so the underlying cause, or causes, can be identified and give you a way out from these horrendous thoughts. Let me know how you get on.

I'm sorry that you are feeling this way Lee, like Dave said please talk to someone about this if you can don't suffer in silence , maybe start with your GP? I have found mine to be really helpful and they can make a quick referral to counselling now, hope you start to feel better you have had a lot going on this year not least of which was getting covid!

I completely agree with Gibby and Dave, please do speak to someone, Lee! You're such a great person, I'm so sorry that you're suffering like this. Dave is right, it's entirely possible that there's a factor in your life that is pushing you to these thoughts, and no one wants you to suffer nor see you actually follow through on these thoughts. Your wife, your kids love you, those of us here, we care about you and want you to be happy and safe. You're loved, always remember that!

Hey @gibby I had a rough day at work on Wednesday, but I have been good the rest of the week. I have had an actually enjoyable weekend for the first time in ages, just about to eat a roast dinner then take my oldest to a birthday party.
