Before I retired I was a self-employed website developer for 20 years. Prior to running my own business I started out, straight from school, into retail; started on the shop floor, became section head, then deputy manager and then manager. After that I worked for a video rental company starting as a shop manager, then became training manager and finally area manager, but my area covered almost the entire UK (some area lol) with my weekly mileage often exceeding 3,000 miles.
After that I worked as a bar manager responsible for the stock, the staff and booking the live bands as it was on the live band circuit for the UK. That was a remarkable five years that I thoroughly enjoyed even though I worked seven days a week. During that time I was designing and printing business cards and leaflets for local businesses and that's when I decided to start my own business and the website development side became the dominant part of the business. I enjoyed that immensely and garnered a great deal of satisfaction from the creation side. Now I just dabble with developing hobby sites for myself.
